The High Country craft beer scene is booming! For now, there are 13 craft breweries, but the number is always growing. With the greatest craft beer scene in rural Victoria, and arguably the country. Not only that, but each one of the venues offers a truly unique experience with an outstanding selection of beers on offer.

BRIDGE ROAD BREWERS – BEECHWORTH

Ben Kraus and his wife Maria founded the brewery in 2005. Since then they have become leaders in Australia’s craft beer scene with their innovation and premium quality local and native ingredients used within their beers. Enjoy the extraordinary range of experimental beers Bridge Road Brewers has to offer, with 20 different beers on tap.

BILLSON’S – BEECHWORTH

Billson’s Brewery was first erected in 1865 by George Billson. Owners Nathan and Felicity welcome you to experience the 140 year old venue first hand. Take a guided tour to view the complete restoration of the venue back to its original glory. Taste the small batch beers, using 100 year old recipes, as well as their more modern and ever-changing lineup of drinks: including spirits, soda and cordials.

Scott Brandon is the founder behind Bright Brewery’s MountainCrafted beers. Opening their doors in 2005, in what started as “two small tin sheds”, Bright Brewery has evolved into an authentic, family friendly, sustainably driven brewery. With a focus on using locally sourced products and fresh mountain water. As a result, Bright Brewery craft a truly delicious range of beers.

BLACK DOG BREWERY – TAMINICK

Black Dog Brewery is one of the few breweries in Australia that is located within a vineyard. James Booth is a fourth-generation winemaker and the founder and brewer behind Black Dog Brewery. Located in Taminick, the brewery sits just 10kms from Ned Kelly’s last stand. Black Dog Brewery offers a truly unique experience. Enjoy the Warby Ranges, overlooking 100 year old vines, while sipping on a refreshing beer or wine.

KING RIVER BREWING – KING VALLEY

King River Brewing is surrounded by the fantastic local King Valley wineries. Founders Nathan and Brianna have created a family friendly venue, located in what used to be an old tobacco kiln, on her parent’s farm. BONFIRE STATION BREWING CO – TAGGERTY

It’s in 2016 that the Bonfire Station adventure starts. Owner Rob decided to transform the old golf club on his family property into a rustic country bar with the dream to create a unique venue for guests to enjoy the country life and good beers. Restoring the old and dilapidated golf clubhouse into the bar and function centre took nearly a year. At this point, he is joined by his partner Flo. Flo and Rob’s brother Phil soon join the team to take Bonfire Station to the next level.

BLIZZARD BREWING CO – DINNER PLAIN

Blizzard Brewing Co is the first Australian brewery above the snowline. All of the beers are made with the fresh spring water that forms below the brewery from snowmelt. This venue is truly unique: it’s one of the few breweries in the world that you can ski or snowboard right into. Watch the brewer work his magic from a birds-eye view while enjoying one of a range of beers on tap in the ‘American style’ brewery. Owner Mark will be there to talk you through the beers and give you a tour.

Owners Tim and Alec of Mitta Mitta Brewing Co have created a truly incredible venue. The food is unique while maintaining an authentic homemade vibe. What’s the most unique part of Mitta Mitta Brewing Co? The 10 ft. high hop bines growing behind the brewery. All of their beers are made using only these hops. On top of this is the fact that their beer is 100% Australian made.

SOCIAL BANDIT BREWING CO – MANSFIELD

Former Jamison Brewery owners Jeff and Jeanette Whyte opened the doors of Social Bandit Brewing Co in 2015. Sit back with a tasting paddle in the brewpub, with a direct view of the brewery in the background. The brewery has 12 beers on tap, with a wide variety of styles on offer including their ‘Sooky La La’ Berliner Weisse and ‘Jackie Brown’ Ale.

OLD FACTORY BREWING CO – MYRTLEFORD

Old Factory Brewing Co started out as an American style smoked meats venue. However, owners Benni and Tim have since expanded into making their own craft beer. Graze your way through one of their delicious meat platters, and sip on a Red IPA. Originally a butter factory, the venue has been turned into a relaxing space that you could spend the day with family and friends.

TWO POT BREWING CO – YACKANDANDAH

Two Pot Brewing Co was formed in 2015 by two brothers, Brendan and Joe. The name arose as it described their “dinky two pot system” they started with. Two Pot doesn’t have a taproom, but you will find their beers on tap each week at the Star Hotel in Yackandandah.

JAMIESON BREWERY – JAMIESON

The Jamieson Brewery has sat on the banks of the famous Goulburn River for over half a century. Being one of the first micro-breweries in Victoria, it has held a reputation for high quality ales and hospitable country charm. There are seven tap beers to choose from including a Raspberry Ale, Irish Red Ale and Pilsner.
