If Bright wasn’t already one of the top go-to places for a weekend break for tourists and locals alike, Bright Brewery certainly adds to the offering. Bright is already a year round destination: perfect winters for skiing and snowboarding; hot summers for swimming in the river and; the explosive colours of spring and autumn.

Located right in the heart of the town, next to the banks of the Ovens River, you can spend an afternoon here, tasting your way through the beers, in the beautiful surroundings.

Founded by Scott Brandon and his late wife Fiona in 2005, after moving from Melbourne to Bright to take advantage of the active but peaceful country lifestyle that the town has to offer.

Until 2011, the brewery and bar comprised of two small tin sheds. However, after a large redevelopment in 2012, the brewery was expanded to how it looks today, seating up to 250 people. With the addition of the Hop Terrace in 2014, Bright Brewery is now one of the best venues in Bright to sit back and enjoy the outdoor setting.

Since the breweries expansion, one of their key focus’ is sustainability. Their mission is “to make our beer production as close to carbon neutral as possible. To minimise our overall environmental footprint on Bright.” Bright and the surrounding area has a pristine natural environment and Bright Brewery want to help keep it that way.

Through solar brewing (which produces about a third of our daily energy usage), and rigorous recycling methods (the brewery grain is fed to cows at a nearby farm) the brewery is staying true to their words.

MountainCrafted BEER

Created with the adventurer in mind, Bright Brewery has designed a core range to suit every type of beer drinker. From their classic easy drinking Alpine XPL to their winter warming, roasty Staircase Porter, to their newly released mid strength sour.

All of the beers are brewed with fresh Alpine spring water which flows right next to the brewery and uses hops from nearby Rostrevor Hop Gardens in Eurobin.

Each beer is named after a natural feature of the surrounding Alpine environment. For example, Hellfire Amber Ale is inspired by Hellfire Gully, which for the more adventurous backcountry skier, is an exhilarating drop off Mt Feathertop.

The brewery is slowly releasing new and old favourites in cans, making them easier to transport. You can always have a sneaky one in your backpack to enjoy after a long ride or walk in the hills.

The Backcountry range covers limited release, one off, small batch and special release brews. This is where brewers Reid Statton and David Stokie get to have some fun, experimenting with barrel ageing, fresh hops and locally sourced native ingredients.

For all craft beer lovers out there, here’s a truly unique experience: become a ‘Brewer For A Day’. Join Reid and Stokie to brew a full scale batch of MountainCrafted beer from scratch. From milling grain to transferring 1200 litres of wort into a fermenter, this is a hands on experience. Learn everything there is to know about brewing history, processes and the science behind it.

Bright Brewery has won gold at the Victorian Tourism Awards for the last three years running (2017-2019) and in 2019 they were inducted into the Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame. Their Razor Witbier also saw them win Champion European Style Ale at the Independent Beer Awards in 2019.
